Laptop Battery Life - Maximize It

Laptop batteries are very expensive to replace, and once they die, if you don't have an extra battery, you can't go anywhere without your power adapter and obviously need somewhere to plug it in.

When operating your laptop on battery power, run the battery down until the computer warns you it going dead. Then plug in the laptop until the battery is fully charged। If you keep your laptop mainly in the same place, keep it hooked up to AC power. There's no reason to run on the battery if it's not necessary. If the battery is fully charged and you disconnect it to take it to another room for a few minutes, do not hook it back up to the AC power, let the battery run down. Macbook batteries go 300+ cycles before they go bad, a cycle is full charge to dead. I treat my cycles like gold, my Macbook pro is 3 months old and I have only used 7 cycles and follow the rule of fully charged to fully dead.

If you are experiencing low battery life and do have some of the bad habits that I mentioned above, there is a remedy. Fully charge your battery and run it down completely dead (until the laptop turns off), do this 3 times and it should give your battery some more life, but don't expect it to be like new. This applies to all batteries, laptops, mobile phones, tools, etc.

Conserve battery energy by adjusting your power settings to put the display and hard disk to sleep after 5 minutes of not being used। Never use your laptop in a very hot environment, if you do, buy a fan tray for it to rest on.

Dell crowdsources laptop designs with Threadless

Computer manufacturer Dell has unveiled a series of 11 new laptop designs courtesy of the Threadless community.

Threadless is best known as a t-shirt design business, to which more 80,000 artists and designers put forward their design ideas. They are voted on and the most popular are printed and sold online through its online shop.

Now the business has teamed up with Dell in a move announced on the Dell Design Blog । The move brings 11 new designs from designers including David Bushell and Mike Mitchell, now on sale. The one we’ve pictured here, Blooming, is designed by TJ Zhang. More designs will be added in the future.

Moonlight Laptop Concept Comes With Cool Dual-Screen Design

What do you think about concepts in general? I, for one, really like them. I am aware that most of them will never enter in production, but if I can dream, why wouldn’t I dream? It feels nice to dream for a better future, and better products. Here is a laptop concept called Moonlight, and as you will see from the pictures, it is based on a really cool dual-screen design.
The dual-screen laptop concept was designed by Teo Braun, a student which loves 3D modeling and animation. Teo says that he designed Moonlight for a contest, however, he lost it. Can you imagine that? Well, you can see the dual-curved screens - one measuring 16:9, while the other which is smaller measures 4:3. The laptop was designed with “health” in mind as it allows its users to “maintain an ideal distance between the eyes”.

According to the designer, the Moonlight can be developed using conventional technologies. The Moonlight concept features a frame with built-in sensors that light up when it’s dark. This will release the stress on the eyes so you can work, play, or surf the Internet under ideal circumstances. The smaller screen is actually a touchscreen and it could have various implications - it can be used as a mouse (probably as a touchpad), it can run another OS, or it can be used as a secondary screen.

At the back you can see a pair of legs which were designed to lift the laptop in the correct position, and to “properly” place its keyboard. The design looks feasible to me, and we already have the technologies required for development therefore I think the Moonlight concept should be manufactured soon. But it needs a manufacturer so all of them should hurry up because the Moonlight is great. £800 Asus Fold/Unfold Laptop To Launch In H2 2009

Asus will be launching a new upmarket laptop based on the fold/unfold laptop model, inspired by the origami philosophy, demoed at the recent CeBIT 2009 event in Germany in the second half of 2009.

Asus's new CEO Jerry Shen told Techradar that the device would cost roughly between $1000 and $1500 and would include the innovative paper-like folding mechanism that lifts the keyboard to an angle.

This should typing more comfortable although we're dubious about having the touchpad and the keyboard on two different planes. It also reminds us of a similar of IBM's THinkpad Butterfly Keyboard which was released as part of the Thinkpad 701 series in 1995.

There are three fold/unfold designs in all that Asus presented which could find their way into the new, posher EEE series and based on what we've seen improved ergonomics is going to be Asus's forte.

Some though have questioned whether the fold/unfold mechanism will be sturdy enough to last for a few years. No specifications have been released yet although, it is very likely that Asus will match Apple's Macbook Air but with a nice 50 percent discount.
